The Ministry of Industry is moving forward to support clean energy!
By giving the green light for factories to install Solar rooftop over 1 megawatt in size without a permit. The new regulation is expected to take effect within 2024.
Mr. Natthaphon Rungsitpol, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, revealed that the Ministry has instructed the Department of Industrial Works (DIW) to amend the law to exempt solar rooftop (Solar Rooftop) installations from the requirement to obtain a factory operating license.
Currently, the Factory Law requires factories that install Solar rooftop with a capacity of over 1,000 kilowatts or 1 megawatt to obtain a permit. However, solar cell technology has developed rapidly, allowing for the production of large amounts of electricity using fewer solar panels or less installation space. In addition, there are safety and environmental standards in place for solar rooftop systems.
The amendment is in line with the government’s policy, led by Prime Minister Mr. Setha Tawesin, to promote the use of renewable energy, especially solar energy, in all sectors. The aim is to upgrade Thailand’s power system to be stable, sustainable, clean, and affordable.
The deregulation is expected to help reduce the cost of doing business from installing solar rooftops, making it easier for factories and businesses to install solar rooftops.
The promotion of clean energy use is also another key factor in supporting Thailand’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
